Create Advanced Markups

Build advanced pricing structures that automatically adjust markup percentages based on product cost ranges and order quantities, giving you greater control over margins and selling prices.

Advanced markups allow you to automatically calculate selling prices based on both the cost of an item and the quantity being sold.

Unlike a simple markup that applies the same percentage to everything, advanced markups allow you to create multiple pricing rules. This makes it possible to apply different margins to low-cost items, high-cost items, small orders, and large-volume orders automatically.

To create an advanced markup, navigate to Settings → Markups and click Add Markup.

Enter a name for the markup, such as Price and Quantity Range, then begin building the pricing rules that will determine how products are marked up.

How Advanced Markups Work

Each markup rule contains three components:

  • A cost price range

  • A minimum quantity

  • A markup percentage

When a product matches those conditions, Hoops automatically applies the designated markup.

For example:

Cost Price

Quantity

Markup

$0.01 - $3.00

1+

500%

$0.01 - $3.00

100+

350%

$0.01 - $3.00

500+

200%

$0.01 - $3.00

1,000+

150%

In this example, the markup decreases as quantity increases, allowing larger orders to receive more competitive pricing.

Adding Additional Price Ranges

Advanced markups are not limited to a single cost range.

You can create additional rules for higher-cost products by defining new cost brackets.

For example:

Cost Price

Quantity

Markup

$3.01 - $5.00

1+

400%

$5.01 - $10.00

1+

275%

This allows you to build highly customized pricing structures that reflect your business's pricing strategy.

⚠️ Create a Catch-All Rule

When building advanced markups, it is important to include a catch-all rule.

A catch-all rule ensures that products falling outside your normal cost ranges still receive a markup.

For example:

Cost Price

Quantity

Markup

$5.01 - $1,000,000

1+

100%

Without a catch-all rule, products that fall outside your configured ranges may not receive the pricing outcome you expect.

Think of this as a safety net that ensures every item added to a SalesDoc, SalesPresentation, or SalesStore can be priced automatically.

Test Your Pricing Structure

As markups become more detailed, it becomes increasingly important to validate the financial results they produce.

Many businesses choose to model their markup structure in a spreadsheet before implementing it in Hoops to ensure margins and selling prices align with their goals.

Once your markup is active, you can also review pricing directly within SalesDocs using the Revenue Summary tools to confirm the expected margins are being achieved.

Next Step: Apply the Markup

Creating a markup only defines the pricing rules.

To use the markup, it must be assigned to products, decorations, and/or additional costs.

See Apply Markups to Products, Decorations, and Additional Costs to learn how to assign your markup rules throughout Hoops.
