Understanding the Difference Between SalesPresentations and SalesStores

Learn the key differences between SalesPresentations and SalesStores, including how Add to Cart workflows behave, SalesDoc conversion, custom domains, billing, and when to use each option.

SalesPresentations and SalesStores share much of the same functionality and user interface.

Both support:

Because of this, many setup and configuration workflows are identical between the two document types.

However, there are several important differences in how SalesPresentations and SalesStores behave.

SalesPresentations

A SalesPresentation is primarily designed as a guided selling and product discovery experience.

The most common workflow is:

  1. Present multiple product ideas to a customer

  2. Refine the products and pricing together

If your account includes the SalesStore Add-on, a SalesPresentation can also include an Add to Cart workflow so customers can self-select products and quantities.

Important Behavior

When the Add to Cart workflow is completed on a SalesPresentation:

  • The SalesPresentation is converted into a SalesDoc

  • The original SalesPresentation no longer exists as a separate active document

  • The SalesPresentation effectively becomes the SalesDoc

This means the SalesPresentation and SalesDoc do not exist side-by-side.

If you need to revisit the original SalesPresentation, you can do so using the BackTrack feature.

SalesStores

A SalesStore is designed as a persistent online storefront experience.

While the product setup process is very similar to a SalesPresentation, the behavior after checkout is fundamentally different.

When the Add to Cart workflow is completed on a SalesStore:

  • A new SalesDoc is created (spawned)

  • The SalesStore remains active

  • Customers can continue using the SalesStore for future purchases

This means the SalesStore and generated SalesDocs exist independently of each other.

SalesStores are therefore better suited for:

  • Ongoing company stores

  • Uniform programs

  • Team ordering portals

  • Event stores

  • Reusable product collections

  • Repeat purchasing workflows

Custom Domains and Hosting

SalesStores can also be hosted on custom URLs such as:

store.yourdomain.com

This allows SalesStores to function as branded online storefronts.

SalesPresentations do not support custom hosted storefront URLs in the same way.

Billing and Plan Differences

SalesStore billing is based on the number of active SalesStores included within your plan.

Depending on your subscription, your account may support:

  • A limited number of active SalesStores

  • Or unlimited SalesStores

Once your account includes any SalesStore plan:

  • You can create unlimited SalesPresentations with Add to Cart functionality enabled

In other words:

  • SalesStore plan limits apply to SalesStores only

  • SalesPresentations with Add to Cart are unlimited once the feature is enabled on your account
